We have recently welcomed Amy Clark to Solab as our new Helpdesk Engineer.
As a vital first point of contact for our clients, Amy will provide support across our IT services team and ensure requests are handled efficiently.
Amy has joined us from Abertay University where she studied Ethical Hacking.
As she steps onto the career ladder, we caught up with Amy to learn more about her academic background, her passions and what attracted her to join Solab.
What are you enjoying most about your new role?
I’ve not been at Solab long but there is already so much I have enjoyed. I’ve gained exposure to new systems and technologies while building my knowledge and skillset. There has been a lot to learn in my first few weeks, but I am starting to understand how everything fits together. Solab has a diverse client base with different needs, so I’ve enjoyed getting to know them and responding to the various ticket requests that come through.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
“Small steps climb mountains.” If you never start, you’ll never reach your goals. Even the smallest amount of progress is still progress – as long as you’re moving forward and taking steps towards where you want to be.
What has been your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge I have faced was university, but not because of the lectures or assignments. I found leaving home to be a big challenge. I grew up in a small town, so moving three hours away, settling into a new environment and being without my support network felt very daunting. Once I found my feet with my coursework and made friends, I settled into university life.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I have quite a few hobbies that keep me busy outside of work. I like to stay active, so you’ll often find me at the gym. Spending quality time with my family and friends is one of my favourite things to do. I also like some time to myself, so I enjoy curling up on the sofa with a book, normally by a comedian or relaxing by doing some cross-stitching.
When you were five years old, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was about five, I wanted to be an artist and that dream stayed with me until my mid-teens. I still like to be creative and many of my hobbies still involve arts and crafts.
