We’re excited to welcome David Richmond-Hawk, our Business Development Manager who will play a pivotal part of the Solab team as we continue to grow and evolve, just like our newly refreshed brand.
David brings almost 20 years of experience in IT services across the Northeast of Scotland and joins us with a sharp focus on innovation, client service, and digital transformation. With a fresh outlook and a strong industry track record, he’s already getting stuck in to help shape what’s next for Solab and our clients.
We caught up with David to learn more about his background, his passions, and what attracted him to Solab.
What’s your career background?
I’ve joined Solab from a data centre and security services organisation, where I was responsible for developing services and growing the business with new and existing enterprise customers.
Before that, I spent eight years as a Sales Manager with an international IT and digital transformation partner, delivering and expanding IT services for larger organisations, mainly in the Energy sector.
Altogether, I have nearly 20 years’ experience in delivering IT services and solutions across the Northeast of Scotland.
What are you most looking forward to in your new role as part of Solab?
I’m really looking forward to making my mark on the business. There’s a strong sense of empowerment in the role and across the company as a whole. I plan to bring some useful experience and fresh ideas that can help us develop and grow further.
What attracted you to Solab?
Without a doubt, the people. I already knew a couple of people who worked here, and Kevin Coll really impressed me with his vision for the business, how he wanted it to grow and how I could be part of that. It felt like the right step in my career, and a chance to apply my gained experience in a meaningful way.
Other than work, what else are you passionate about in life?
My family and football. I’m a big Liverpool FC fan and also a youth football coach.
What has been your biggest challenge, personally or professionally?
Personally, I found the disruption and isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic really difficult, for both myself and my family.
Professionally, keeping my thinking fresh and relevant as technology continues to evolve at pace – an ongoing but enjoyable challenge. The birth of the Internet era, the development of cloud and data-led services, the increased necessity of cyber-security and now the introduction of AI are all huge advancements in our industry. Bringing all of that together into cohesive offerings that make a real difference for our customers is a vital part of my role.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
“Break big problems into smaller ones.” It’s been incredibly helpful, both professionally and personally.
When you were 5 years old, what did you want to be when you grew up?
That was quite a while ago! I think I went through phases of wanting to be a palaeontologist, an astronaut, and a pilot. Imagine a job that combined all three!
We’re always on the lookout for curious minds, positive attitudes, and people who think differently.
